Man looking up and thanking God while raising hands.

“Someone once said, ‘If you have learned to give thanks for your problems, then you have learned to live with them.’

Thankfulness thus becomes a barometer of our spiritual lives. It indicates a deepening relationship with God in which one learns to receive even problems as if they came from the hand of a loving Father. It recognizes that since God has allowed something, He will give the grace to live and grow through it.”

I am a thankful person, but I’m reminded of Paul’s exhortation to the Thessalonians to “excel still more” (1 Thes. 4:1). Interestingly, today’s message will also be from 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

2 Thoughts on “Thanks, No Matter What! | John MacArthur, Jr. (Audio)”

  • Wow, the audio was really awesome! I can see how a grateful heart could be a measurement of how spiritual you’re being. I’ve seen it in my own life. When I’m being tempted to buy something new that I don’t need or wondering if things would be easier if I just had a little bit more money, I can see how I’m not being thankful for what the Lord has so already provided. I’m the most happy when my heart is set upon the Lord and His lavishing kindness in my life. Thank you for posting the audio!

    • You’re welcome. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You remind me of something I once read, “It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.” (Spurgeon) He has given us Himself to enjoy. How much more could we want?
