Abomination – that which is “detestable to, extremely disgusting, and hated” by God.

Deut. 7:1-2, 25; 12:31; 27:15; 1 Cor. 10:7, 14

What is an abomination to God?

Are you making anything an idol/god in your life (that which takes priority over and competes for your time, attention, devotion and desires over God and doing His will, obeying His commands), such as: money, sports, weight-lifting, music, career, food, girl/boyfriend, sex, cars, computers, cell phones, social media sites, video games, hobbies, school, self, etc.?

If you are, did you realize that doing so is extremely disgusting to and hated by God?

And if you are, what do you plan to do about it, and why?

And do you view as detestable the person who uses divination (fortune-telling by demonic means; e.g., false prophets), practices witchcraft (demonic spells of magic), interprets omens (signs supposedly to tell the future), is a sorcerer (uses drugs and spells through demons to control circumstances or people), casts spells (pronounces evil on people through demon powers), is a medium (one who is used a as channel for communication by a demon), is a spiritist (one who communicates with the dead/a demon) or calls up the dead (to consult them, but is really a demon), and why?

Deut 23:18          What is an abomination to the Lord?

Though the practice of paying for a vow (allowing a person to express in the temple his gratitude for God’s gracious provision in his life) with money obtained through prostitution isn’t done today, do you view as detestable people giving money to the church that was obtained through sinful means (e.g., theft, cheating on income taxes, selling illicit drugs, etc.), and why?

Rev. 3:15-16          Who will God spit out of His mouth (because they are extremely disgusting to Him)?

Are you lukewarm/mediocre/indifferent/apathetic/passive in your spiritual life?

Do you play the “Christian compromise game” of having one foot in the church and one foot in the world, trying to have the best of both worlds?

Well, it doesn’t work.  Jesus said you’re either for or against Him.  You either gather or scatter (people to or from Him), Matthew 12:30.  You can’t serve to masters, Matthew 6:24.  Either He’s Lord/Master of your life or He’s not.  And if He is not, then you’re in sad shape as a Christian (just like the Laodiceans in Rev. 3:14-22) and disgusting to God.

If so, what do you need to do (Rev. 3:19), so that you’re not disgusting to God, and when will you start?

[“zealous” – intense and earnest/serious/determined in your effort.  In this case, to be “hot” spiritually.].

[“repent” – change your thinking about the fact that you’re not spiritually fine, but rather spiritually blind to your sad condition and need to “get with it” spiritually, to be completely obediently to God and His Word.].

Though the sins listed in this study are specifically called or shown to be an abomination, detestable, disgusting, or hated by God, in actuality, all sin is an abomination to God because it’s offensive to His holiness. So, we too should view all sin as detestable and not see one sin as worse or more disgusting than another sin and, therefore, look down on people who commit the ones we don’t do.
